Plant Safety
Cranes, forklift trucks, motor vehicles, Boom lifts over 11 metres and other equipment subject to statutory certification of operators must only be operated by suitably qualified personnel. Evidence of appropriate certification and training must be provided to the Site Contact at the time of risk assessment. A site competency test must be undertaken before operations of mobile plant and equipment.
Contractors must not operate plant and equipment with safety devices removed. If it is necessary to remove guards from machinery as part of a service or repair process, Contractors are responsible for ensuring adequate lockout steps are taken to prevent the untimely start-up of plant in line with the site’s LOTO procedure.
If a Contractor is required to leave an item of plant unmonitored in an unsafe condition, it must be adequately tagged and locked out. A “Caution Out of Order” tag and LOTO lock must be fitted before leaving unattended in line with the site’s LOTO procedure.
